Grenada Information

Weather

Bearing a tropical climate, Grenada is, as expected, humid and hot throughout the year, with a rainy and humid season from June to December, featuring irregular winds and an increased feeling of sultriness, and a relatively dry and cool season spanning from January to April with steady and constant northeast winds of moderate intensity being the main characteristic. Grenada, as any other Caribbean island, welcomes visitors with high temperatures year-round and hot summers, although the heat rarely gets unbearable due to the cooling sea breezes. The nights may feel a bit muggy, though, and the temperature ranges in the 22oC (72oF).

Overall, Grenada’s climate is typical of the Caribbean – warm, with very few temperature variations from month to month (even between seasons). It also has the most predictable temps of all islands belonging to the Caribbean region. At the same time, it features the highest rainfall compared to its other siblings, especially during the hurricane season.

Rainfall

The large, mountainous island of Grenada experiences more rainfall (in the form of thunderstorms or downpours) than the rest of the Caribbean, especially between the months of June and December, with the most intense being during the hurricane season (from July to November). However, these tropical storms are short-lasting, rarely hit Grenada directly, and are quite unlikely to make life difficult. The rainy and hot season begins around mid-April and late May when the frequency of downpours (and the temperature) increases gradually. Nevertheless, sometimes, a more intense (bad) weather wave may hit Grenada, without usually affecting the sunshine hours much.

It should also be noted that the islands located northeast of Grenada, namely Petit Martinique, and Carriacou, are receivers of significantly less rain than Grenada annually. This is primarily owed to the low height of their mountains and their small size.

The Weather in the Mountainous Areas

That aside, the mountainous areas are distinguished by more cloudy weather, a bit lower temperatures, and more abundant precipitation than the other Grenada areas, as the altitude affects the Grenada weather significantly. Lastly, it should be noted that light rains often fall in forested regions, irrespective of the season.

The Weather Inland

Things change (compared to mountainous Grenada) the further one moves towards the interior of the island, where they are greeted with higher temperatures.

Average Temperatures

What is impressive with the Grenada weather is that one can expect very little variation in the average temperatures throughout the year. So, the island’s mean temperature is between 26oC (78.8oF) and 27.5oC (81.5oF), with no sudden drops or increases in temperatures through the months or seasons.
